Summary: Olivia makes a booboo (is that even a word?)

The day had been long and gruelling for Olivia. Only the thought of one person kept her from losing her sanity, Alex. She was the only person that could make Olivia forget about the bad days and replace them with thoughts that brought a smile to her face. Today had been particularly long, and Olivia was so eager to see Alex that she walked to the DA offices on her lunch break. As she approached the elevator she waved to the various counsel that had represented the SVU at one time or another, and continued on her way towards the office she knew so well. As she approached, she noticed the door was open a crack and she could see the tall blonde with her back facing the door reading over something on the desk. Olivia entered quietly, closing the door behind her. Before she could turn around, Olivia hugged her from behind.

"God, I have had such a bad day. And I have missed you terribly... want to go out to lunch to cheer me up?" The blonde stood very still, not moving under Olivia's grip.

"Well, I don't know what you want me to do to cheer you up...but its good to know that I have been missed, Olivia." Olivia jumped back, and felt her face reddening.

"Oh my god...Serena, I thought you were...I mean, oh shit!" Olivia stuttered, staring into the face of the amused ADA who was not her lover. Before either could say anything Alex entered the room, face buried in a pile of paper.

"Serena, I think this might be what you're looking for... It..." She looked up stunned at the scene before her. Olivia avoided eye contact with either blondes, and Serena now had a knowing smile on her face.

"I came to do lunch, but you look busy, so I can come back." Olivia bolted towards the door.

"Olivia wait," Alex shouted after her, but too late. The door slammed shut behind her. "Uh...what did I miss?" Alex asked.

"Well, you missed your girlfriend sneaking in, mistaking me for you and pulling me into a hug, while whispering in my ear how much she missed you." The grin on her face spread, as she fought back laughter. "So now I know your little secret Cabot, very impressive...and you have good taste in women if I do say so myself."

Alex felt the heat rising to her face. She opened her mouth to talk, but nothing came out. "I...we...she...oh shit!" Alex managed.

"That's what she said." Serena teased. "Got time for lunch? We can discuss the case, and other various information that has just come to light."

Alex nodded. Gathering a few papers from the desk, her mind reeling about the last two minutes of her life. 'Oh well' she thought, 'it could have been worse...and I may even gain a friend here.' "We can't be too long, I have to be back by two to prepare for court." She added, as they walked out side by side towards the lobby and out onto the street.

After the first ten minutes of idle conversation about the case, it because exceedingly obvious that Serena no longer wanted to talk about work.

"So....how long?" Serena asked. Alex looked up from her steaming tea.

"How long what?" She replied.

"You and Olivia."

"Oh, about six months I guess." Alex replied, not wanting to continue with the subject. "Who are you with these days?" She asked after a few moments.

"Me, nobody. I thought that I was the only person in this area with interests in the same sex. Then I find out that two women I have worked with have similar interests, leaving me with none again." She replied, looking sadly into her glass.

"Are you serious? My god, we were all taking bets on when you and McCoy would get together. Everyone can see he is interested, and you seemed to show it back." Alex laughed. Serena's eyes shot up.

"You what? Jack and me? Ha! Not in this lifetime!" She shot back, slightly hurt at the realisation that there was office talk about her already, considering she had only just started around three months ago.

"Hey, don't worry about it. Just ignore it, people talk...but it shouldn't worry you. You should have heard the things that went around about Abbie Carmichael, the ADA you replaced." Alex said, noticing the defensive tone in Serena's voice. Serena nodded.

"Yeah, I still hear some things about her. Was she really that bad?" She asked. Alex smiled.

"Nah, she was a little bit of a hard ass, that's all. No one could penetrate beneath her skin. You would have liked her, she was great. A really talented attorney, not unlike yourself." Alex replied.

"So, how did it happen? You and Olivia I mean." Serena asked, getting back to the subject at hand.

"Well... I guess I had always felt attracted to her, and one night at one of the law society functions, she was there, taking Cragen's place, we got talking over a few glasses of red, we went back to my place, drank more wine, I kissed her, she kissed back...I freaked out and went to bed. The next morning she said that she didn't kiss me because she was drunk, she did it because she wanted to. I guess that's where it started." Alex replied, looking at her watch. "I have to get going. This was nice, we should do lunch again sometime." She added, putting on her jacket.

"Yeah, sure will. Good luck, not that you'll need it." Serena replied, watching her leave before going back to staring into her cup.

Court had adjourned for the day, and Alex was gathering her papers and putting them in her briefcase.

"Alex," A familiar voice called. Alex turned to see Olivia, and smiled.

"Hey, how was your day?" She asked, fastening her briefcase and walking towards her. "Coming for dinner still?"

"I have had a long and hard day, made worse by an embarrassing lunchtime episode, but a home cooked meal will most certainly set the day right." Olivia replied. Alex felt an urge to hug her close, but shrugged it off, it would be deemed inappropriate in the courtroom. Once they were out on the street walking towards Alex's car, Alex squeezed Olivia's hand.

"How about I give you a backrub when we get home, you seem so tense." Alex suggested. Olivia smiled at her.

"I'd like that." Olivia said, squeezing her hand in return. "So, did you cop any flack from Serena at lunch?" She asked.

"Actually quite the opposite. She was jealous of us!" Alex commented casually, unlocking the car door. "Are you coming now? Or do you have things to finish off at the station?" She asked.

"No, I don't think so. I'm up for a nice relaxing evening, and I think Elliot could tell I wasn't in the mood to work any later than I had to." Alex pulled out of the car park, and headed to the main road. Alex reached out for Olivia's hand, gently stroking it with her fingers. Olivia shut her eyes, savouring the feeling. As they pulled into the car drive, Alex lent over to kiss Olivia's cheek.

"I'm sorry you had such a bad day." She whispered into Olivia's cheek. "I hope I can make it a little better."

Olivia turned her head so she was facing the gorgeous blonde woman, kissing her passionately. "Alex, just seeing you makes me feel better." She was rewarded by a warm smile before Alex stepped out of the car. Alex jiggled the keys in the door, pushing it open and walking in. Olivia followed closely behind, walking fast to catch up to her lover, grabbing her around the waist and kissing the back of her neck. "Mmmm, you taste so good...I don't think I need that massage after all." Alex turned, welcoming the eager lips on her own.

As Olivia shuffled her backward into the house, Alex couldn't help thinking how lucky she was to find such a wonderful woman, one she had fallen deeply in love with, and knowing Olivia felt the same made her realise just how lucky they both were.

The End
